2013 Discover Orange Bowl
Bookend runs by senior Lonnie Pryor and dominating performances on both sides of the ball helped Florida State (12-2) defeat Northern Illinois (12-2) 21-10 to claim the 2013 Discover Orange Bowl trophy in South Florida's Sun Life Stadium.
Pryor sprinted 60 years for a touchdown with just under six minutes left in the first quarter to put the Seminoles ahead 7-0. He ended the night - and the game - by scoring on a 37-yard run in the fourth quarter. In between, Florida State senior quarterback EJ Manuel passed for 291 yards, threw one touchdown pass and ran for another score to help put away the pesky Huskies. The Seminoles outgained Northern Illinois 534 yards to 259 yards for the game. Pryor finished the night with 134 yards on only five carries and was named the game's most outstanding player.
With the score 17-10 in favor of the Seminoles at the end of the third quarter, Manuel began the final 15 minutes with the nine-yard scamper before Pryor's score three minutes later ended any doubts about who the victorious team would be. Florida State's defense held Northern Illinois and its standout quarterback Jordan Lynch to one first-quarter field goal and a third-quarter TD pass.
Several trick plays on special teams kept the Huskies close, but the nation's second ranked defense was too powerful for Lynch, who was bottled up most of the night.
It was Florida State's first win in a Bowl Championship Series game since 2000, and it validated four years of hard worked by seniors such as Pryor, Manuel and defensive tackle Everett Dawkins. During their freshman season, the Seminoles finished 7-6. Four years later, they had helped elevate a historically strong program with an Atlantic Coast Conference title in addition to the Discover Orange Bowl victory.
Celebrate the Seminoles' Orange Bowl victory with the 2013 Discover Orange Bowl DVD, it is a great addition to any Florida State fan's DVD collection!
