Music Masters, The: Judy Garland - Quiet Please There's A Lady On Stage

Frances Ethel Gumm was born on June 10th 1922 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and made her first public appearance at Christmas in 1924 at the ripe old age of 2 years old. In a bid to help their daughters' careers the family moved to Lancaster near Los Angeles where all three girls were enrolled in singing and dancing classes. In 1934 they changed their stage name from Gumm to Garland and Baby became Judy. When the family act broke up Judy auditioned for the film companies and when MGM heard the 13 year old sing her legacy was assured.
