Our Trip Through America

A glitzy nightclub dancer in New Orleans. A drag show for gay bar full of Marines. The lady who fries catfish at the Blue & White Restaurant in Tunica, Mississippi. The woman whose husband built her a miniature replica of Elvis' Graceland in their front yard. These are just a few of the people featured in Where Are We?, a film about ordinary people working, playing, and just getting by - each pursuing a unique, and sometimes startlingly original version of the American dream.

Directors Jeffrey Friedman & Rob Epstein wanted to do something completely different after their Oscar-winning documentary Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt. For 18 days they traveled by van, by bus, and by train through the South and Southwest, stopping in cities and small towns, talking with people they met along the way. The result is Where Are We? (Our Trip Through America), a road movie about people whose lives we rarely see on the screen.
