The Betty Broderick Story
Meredith Baxter did a couple of about faces when the segued from the tree-lined laughs of Family Ties in 1992 to the daunting task of portraying the vengeful California divorcee Betty Broderick in the landmark telefilms originally titled A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story and Her Final Fury: The Betty Broderick Story Part II. Broderick was tried in 1991 for killing her ex-husband and his new wife, played by Stephen Collins and Michelle Johnson. Baxter, who was nominated for an Emmy for her daring portrayal, noted to the press that she took Broderick's side while working on the first movie and then, realizing how cleverly Broderick maneuvered the media, turned unsympathetic in the second. Ten years later, Baxter and director Dick Lowry offer revealing audio commentary and Broderick herself is here with chilling footage from her murder trial.
