Jack (Dacre Montgomery) returns home to New Zealand to attend the funeral of his estranged mother, a troubled architect who abandoned him as a child. Though Jack claims he was invited by Jill (Vicky Krieps), his mother's widow, she has no recollection of contacting him. As Jack grapples with complex emotions about his mother and the boyfriend he has left behind, his encounters with Jill start taking tense and eerie turns.
