Zombie hunters on a frightening quest for undead beings!
A horror/action thriller dealing with the invasion of Zombies into a local community.
In a frightening abandoned prison off the East Coast, a doctor has revived executed convicts as "the Living Dead."
A teenager (Scott Schwartz, The Toy) has taken the laser out of a video disc player and made a weapon out of it. When the dead creatures are discovered, he pursues them, aided by his girlfriend and grandfather, played by veteran actor/Western star Bob Allen (Karloff's The Black Room).
A reporter (Robert Deveau) on the trail of the story is helped by the old librarian (acting legend Zita Johann in her final film role). Johann had been a big Broadway star and co-starred with Boris Karloff in The Mummy, starred in Sin Of Nora Moran and co-starred with Edward G. Robinson in Tiger Shark.
On the prison island, the Zombies attack a security guard and tear him apart just as the reporter and the kid with the laser gun arrive to rescue a victim in the prison's caverns.
The film features incredible weird locations and great Zombie effects.
Director Sam Sherman's company, Independent-International Pictures Corp., purchased an unfinished short 80-minute film-Dying Day from special effects filmmaker Brett Piper. When the buyers turned this film down because of poor quality, Sherman decided to re-shoot the film as Dark Night. Buyers were happy with the improvement in the film and so Sherman went further and added more and more footage until the final project became Raiders Of the Living Dead-which was a big success, leaving very little of Dying Day left in the final film. All three versions are on this disc-the final version of Raiders Of the Living Dead, Sherman's first work print cut of Dark Night and Brett Piper's original Dying Day. You can see the evolution of a movie and view many of the editorial and production devices employed to make the final version a marketing success. Dark Night and Dying Day are not rated.
