For Us The Living: Medgar Evers Story

Starring Howard E. Rollins, Jr. (Ragtime) as civil right activist Medgar Evers and Irene Cara (Fame) as his wife Myrlie, For Us The Living: The Medgar Evers Story traces the life of the former insurance salesman turned field secretary for the NAACP, who was instrumental in organizing boycotts against discriminating southern white merchants and the desegregation of the University of Mississippi. Howard E. Rollins, Jr.'s riveting performance as Evers makes all the more poignant his struggles and triumphs, and the battle for equality that would shockingly end with his assassination at the hand of white supremacist Byron De La Beckwith.

Directed by Michael Schultz (Carwash) from the screenplay by Ossie Davis and Ken Rotcop (based on For Us, The Living by Myrlie Evers-Williams and William Peters), For Us The Living: The Medgar Evers Story features sterling performances by an ensemble cast including Ossie Davis, Jr. (Do The Right Thing), Margaret Avery (The Color Purple), Roscoe Lee Browne (The Cowboys), Paul Winfield (Sounder) and Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix).
