Adventure Classics Collection

The Adventure Classics Collection contains four great adventure films based on famous literary works (three by Alexandre Dumas). Released between 1934 and 1941, all were made by independent producer Edward Small. All four have been digitally remastered from original 35mm materials for optimal picture and sound quality.

Films Include

The Count Of Monte Cristo

Robert Donat stars in this classic swashbuckler based on the 1844 novel by Dumas. It tells the story of Edmond Dantes, a common seaman falsely accused of spying during the Napoleonic Wars. Imprisoned without trial in the infamous Chateau d'If, he spends over a decade in solitary confinement. With the aid of a fellow captive, he makes a daring escape. Stars Robert Donat, Elissa Landi, Louis Calhern and Sidney Blackmer. Directed by Rowland V. Lee.

The Last Of The Mohicans

This action-packed 1936 adaptation of James Fenimore Cooper's classic adventure novel is set in 1757 at the siege of Fort William Henry during the French and Indian War. Randolph Scott stars as Hawkeye, a colonial frontier scout who becomes a reluctant hero when he is assigned to escort the fort commander's two daughters safely through Indian territory. Stars Randolph Scott, Binnie Barnes and Bruce Cabot. Directed by George B. Seitz.

The Man In The Iron Mask

James Whale's exciting adaptation of this Dumas novel centers on twin heirs to France's throne who are separated at birth. The first-born Louis, is raised as a prince, but Philippe is brought up ignorant of his true identity. When Philippe is arrested with his companions, D'Artagnan and the three Musketeers, he meets his brother, now the king, face-to-face. Stars Louis Hayward, Joan Bennett, Warren William and Alan Hale. Directed by James Whale.

The Corsican Brothers

There's plenty of swordplay and swashbuckling adventure in this Dumas tale of identical twins, separated as infants, each raised unaware of the other's existence. One becomes a Parisian gentleman, the other a country bandit. When they are reunited as adults, they seek revenge on the evil Baron who plundered their homestead and robbed them of their birthright. Stars Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Ruth Warrick, and Akim Tamiroff. Directed by Gregory Ratoff.
