Screen sweethearts Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler costarred in six classic movie musicals, starting with the groundbreaking 42nd Street and going out in style with Colleen. The merry love-and-money plot involves a wheeler-dealer (Jack Oakie) who convinces a goofy millionaire (Hugh Herbert) to back a chic dress shop run by two cuties (Keeler and Joan Blondell), much to the chagrin of the millionaire's all-business nephew (Powell) and all-battle-ax wife (Louise Fazenda). The snappy, Depression-busting Harry Warren/Al Dubin numbers hit a high note with a fashion sequence showcasing the best of 1936 couture: bias-cut gowns, tennis whites, riding garb, little black dresses and hats from an era when hats simply made the woman.
