Salute To Hee Haw, A: Collector's Edition
After Hee Haw premiered in the summer of 1969, no one thought it would become the most successful country music variety shows of all time. Especially when CBS dropped it in 1971 as part of the Tiffany Network's purge of its rural-themed programming. But Hee Haw refused to go away. Thanks to the miracle of syndication, it thrived, delivering great country music and comedy each week to millions of households.
In o-hosts Buck Owens and Roy Clark, along with Minnie Pearl, Grandpa Jones Stringbean, Roy Acuff and Roni Stoneman, Hee Haw had talent to burn. Add such guest artists as Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Waylon Jennings, Tanya Tucker, Jerry Lee Lewis, Lynn Anderson, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans and you have A Salute To Hee Haw: Collector's Edition.
Some of the finest moments occurred when Ray Charles dropped by. Ray got caught up in the excitement, pitched in on the comedy routines, and joined Buck for the most soulful duet version of Crying Time imaginable. It's all right here.
