Ten-year-old Addie (Lisa Lucas) is determined to get one thing for Christmas this year... a tree. James, her father (Oscar winner Jason Robards), equally stubborn and still mourning the loss of his wife, can't bear to celebrate the holiday in any way. After Addie wins a Christmas tree in a school contest, it's up to Grandma (Oscar-nominee Mildred Natwick) to try to smooth over the battle between her son and her granddaughter, both of whom she adores.
