In one of moviedom's most influential roles, James Dean plays Jim Stark, the new kid in town whose loneliness, frustration and anger mirrored those of postwar teens - and reverberate more than 40 years later. Natalie Wood (as Jim's girlfriend Judy) and Sal Mineo (in his screen debut as Jim's tag-along pal Plato) were Acadamy Award nominees for their achingly true performances. Director Nicholas Ray was also an Oscar nominee for this landmark film chosen as one of the Top-100 American Films by the American Film Institute. Rebel Without a Cause has been digitally mastered from newly restored elements, so this DVD offers the movie's picture and sound in its most optimal presentation since its original theatrical release.

aspect ratio should be 2:6.1 - 3.5 out of 5 (9/7/2004)
When I owned the Laser disc of this title in the James Dean Collection, this title of Rebel had an aspect ratio of 2:6.1 (that's wide !! ) rememeber Ben Hur was 2:76.1 .. Why is this title now only 2:35.1 .It was a Cinemascope production when released not panavision .

If you're human........... - 4.5 out of 5 (5/24/2004)
.........you'll love this movie. James Dean, Natalie Wood, and Sal Mineo at their best. Throw in Dennis Hopper and even Thurston Howell. If you can't relate to this movie, you didn't watch it. Done in the mid 50's, it's still easy to relate to. James Dean was at his peak with incredible acting performances from Sal Mineo, Jim Backus and Natalie Wood. Dean will "steal the show", but keep an eye his supporting cast. Every staement seems relative to this movie-and the characters relied on each othe
