Now that's how you do it! - 5 out of 5  (3/21/2000)
I sit here bleary eyed and dog-tired from having stayed up all night to watch the "Abyss: Special Edition." I told my wife that it was necessary and that it was part of my job, but truth be told, I would have done it anyway. Don't anybody tell her! "The Abyss" is something of a legend in video history. It was James Cameron's first foray into the ocean and it almost sunk his career. The original filming went over budget and over time. It almost killed two of the actors and   more >>

OK movie, Fantastic Disc - 4 out of 5  (10/17/2002)
The Abyss is probably the weakest of Cameron's movies, excluding of course his involvment in Pirhana 2. The movie doesn't really go anywhere, and the ending is really bad. The director's cut version on the disc improves the ending much more, but still does not elevate it to the standards of masterpieces like Aliens and Terminator films.   more >>

One of cinema's most underrated films receives an awesome DVD - 5 out of 5  (3/18/2002)
This is a spectacular display of engineering a dvd to capture the essence of a movie. The visual and sound effects on the menu are both haunting and jaw-dropping - much like the movie itself. Cameron obviously takes great pride in his cinematic achievements (witness the brilliant 'Terminator' and 'T2' disc treatments) and spares us none of the fascinating details of the arduous journeys to their completion. The 50-minute 'making of' documentary is not your average extended promo featurette, but   more >>
