an incredible film - 5 out of 5 (5/22/2001)
I have to be honest in saying that I never had any desire to see CAST AWAY
in the theaters. I realize that makes me one of the few, but I stand firm in
the fact that I didn't want to see Tom Hanks or Helen Hunt do another
Academy Award role. Don't get me wrong, I think they are both fine actors

One of cinema's great performances! - 5 out of 5 (1/25/2002)
In Cast Away, Tom Hanks gives an astounding performance that towered above all others in the year 2000. His transformation from time obsessed Federal Express trouble shooter to primal man is among the screen's most searing performance. The middle section of the film is remarkable because Hanks holds the screen with his sheer acting talent. No musical score, no car chases, no explosions, just pure, brilliant acting. Had he not won Oscars for Philadelphia (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994), I am convi

A must have DVD for the true videophile. - 5 out of 5 (9/6/2001)
After watching this film for the first time, I was truly moved. What an amazing experience that separates the truly mature person from the kid that winces when his parents kiss.
I still remember a man in his late 40's (after seeing the movie), looking up at the theater marquee and saying, "Cast Away is 1 word, not 2!" Here is a grown up that truly did not understand what the movie is all about and quite frankly, after reading the reviews, no one else appeared to catch the real meaning of th

A man and his trusted volleyball face a deserted island - 5 out of 5 (8/6/2001)
One of the first novels ever concerned itself with a man alone on a desert island. As such, this is one of the oldest themes provided to film by literature. The latest incarnation of this theme is Cast Away. Although the story is simple it has sparked a lot of discussion. The story follows Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks), a troubleshooter for Fed Ex. He is a man that lives by the clock, literally. He is sent to places around the world that fail to live up to the demanding schedules of Fed Ex. An effic
