Now available on DVD for the first time , this sweeping, Oscar nominated epic is "one of the most spectacular mega productions ever made" (Louis Black, The Austin Chronicle). Digitally remastered and loaded with revealing special features, El Cid stars Academy Award winners Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren in two of their legendary performances.
Anthony Mann masterfully directs this classic tale of the 11th century hero (Heston) who fought to unite Spain. Know as history's "compassionate warrior", the film follows El Cid's remarkable journey from peace broker accused of treason to the Kings fighting champion, and later from exiled hero to legendary martyr.
Unequaled in scope, grandeur and adventure, El Cid is an essential part of any film lover's collection.

El Cid finally on DVD. - 3.25 out of 5 (2/18/2008)
The only complaint I have with the quality of this dvd pertains to the audio quality... it's poor. I had to continually adjust my volume control. Background audio sometimes overpowers the actor's dialogue. At times the overall audio for a scene is too loud. Next scene too low... back to the volume control. For the length of time it took to get this film to DVD you'd think it the audio would be near perfect... everything else about it is.
