Enjoying Mr. Ripley - 4.75 out of 5 (6/26/2000)
"It is better to be a fake somebody, than a real nobody."
These words are at the very heart of "The Talented Mr. Ripley."
The film is based on a novel written in 1955 by Patricia Highsmith and the novel was considered racy for it's time. Years later, the film finally made it onto the big screen in a society that is considerably more open-minded.
"Silence of the Lambs" taught us to love the anti-hero and that genesis is also a large part of why this film succeeds in wrapping up the vie

When I first saw the trailers for this movie, I was drawn to the great actors and scenery, but thought: pretty, but another predictable scary, freaky person movie a la the stepfather and single white female, to name the best of the genre. Okay, so I was really wrong on this one. While it is dark, the script of this thriller takes us places I never would have guessed, and most importantly makes you care about Tom Ripley, even as you're repulsed by him. I'd dare to say this movie bests hitchcoc

This was an excellent thriller, very well acted and written, great performances by the whole cast and the whole movie was very well done. Kudos to the art direction, cinematography and costumes, a wonderful movie for lovers of dark, intelligent and suspense.
