I can't believe I watched the whole thing...three times! - 3.25 out of 5 (4/25/2000)
"Showgirls" is a sadomasochistic extravaganza. A visual treat for the eyes and a moral cleansing for the soul.
I uh .. Didn't write that. I actually read that somewhere and thought "Wow, what has this guy been smoking?" The film is sadomasochistic all right. The sadists were the producers and the masochists are the ones who watch it more than once.
The film is vulgar, heavy-handed, off-balance, poorly written, poorly acted and sometimes painful to watch.

There are movies that are bad and know it and play to it (Plan 9 From Outer Space, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, etc.). This is not one of them. This movie thinks it's, good and it genuinely isn't. I will give credit to Gina Gershon as she is hot as always in whatever movie she is in. Other than her and the Twin Peaks guy, all the other acting in this film is poor. It started off a little weak, but it wasnt that bad at all. The storyline was pretty good. Honestly, I have seen a lot worst. I think the critics were just being hard on the movie cause Elizabeth was in it.

Watch on a big TV screen, turn up your surround system, pep up your sub woofer, dim the lights, open up some beer, sit with your friends, and be ready to be genuinely entertained! Its not just sexy nude women, but the direction and stage choreography is what makes this movie different.
