Empire Review HOT SIZZLING BASIC INSTINCTS - 3.75 out of 5  (6/19/2001) This sexy murder mystery is about a brutal homicide, a talented killer, and a detective who can't resist danger. BASIC INSTINCT is an intense sexual thriller as a detective investigates a slaying of a former rock star that was murdered in bed with an ice pick. Mimicking a clever novelists' story, the murder is followed out in detail of what Catherine Tramell wrote in her latest book, making her the prime suspect. The video is horrible. It looks like they mastered it from a VHS tape. However, the R-Rated cut has reasonably good picture quality, good sound quality, next to no features, but the DVS (Descriptive Video Service) is so funny (for this particular movie) to listen to its hilarious not to pass up getting. Also, story and characters are great too. A must to get.   more >> Customer Review Three women and a jerk - 4.25 out of 5  (10/10/1998) "Basic instinct" is about manipulation. It isn't a surprise since everyone except Michael Douglas seems to have obtained a degree in Psychology in this movie. The story isn't so important ; a classic "whodunnit" case. What's really interesting is to watch a movie which gives the leading roles to the women. Michael Douglas is no more than a puppet between the hands of Catherine, Roxy and Beth !
