The Messenger Must Be Silenced.
A lost soul has just received the wounds of Christ...and a shocking message that will alter history. Stunning performances from Patricia Arquette (True Romance), Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects) and Jonathan Pryce (Ronin) and a cutting edge score by Billy Corgan of "The Smashing Pumpkins" and Elia Cmiral make Sitgmata "a visual and visceral feast" (Entertainment Today).
Frankie Paige (Arquette) has absolutely no faith in God. All of that changes when she suddenly begins to suffer the Stigmata - the living wounds of the crucified Christ. Frankie's miraculous bleeding comes to the attention of the Vatican's top investigator, Father Kiernan (Byrne). But when Cardinal Houseman (Pryce), discovers that Frankie is actually channeling an extraordinary and provacative message that could destroy the Church, he's convinced that she - and the force possessing her - must be forever silenced. Determined to stop this deadly conspiracy, Kiernan risks his faith - and his life - to save her and the message that will change the destiny of mankind forever.

When "Stigmata" opened in the theater. I had no desire to see it because it looked like another one of those boring religious movies.
I was wrong!
Although after watching the first few minutes I was hard-pressed on whether or not it was a horror film or a deeply spiritual supernatural thriller.
I finally opted for the latter. Why you ask. Because it stars Gabriel Byrne. I mean: Is it me or does every movie with any type of horror/religious overtones have to star eith

The significance of the story will escape many... - 4 out of 5 (3/18/2001)
...who can't follow *why* the words spoken in the film are radical. Much of the tension in this film can only be shared and appreciated if you know a little something about theology. Those who expected The Exorcist (and... why is that??) should go get that movie and leave this one alone.
It's an excellent film, and its several flaws are mitigated by the sophistication of its plot and its daring choice of subject matter. Kudos to the DVD Empire reviewing for understanding the real story of the

DO NOT BUY THIS - 3 out of 5 (4/3/2000)
This is the worst movie I have ever seen. It so so boring that I turned it of before it ended. As for the disc itself it is not bad,it has some decent features and the audio and video are good but you buy these for the movie so don't buy it.
