"Laden With Happiness and Tears" - 5 out of 5 (11/3/1998)
Fiddler on the Roof is one of the best musicals ever made both on stage and on screen. DVD is the ultimate format on which to watch it. The dance and musical numbers have never looked or sounded better. You'll find yourself laughing, crying, and singing along with Tevye and the gang all over again!
I played Tevye on stage so I appreciate the intermission slide and music. It preserves the theater atmosphere very effectively. I can't get enough of Isaac Stern's playing!

Let this DVD set the standard for what is to come. Truly a fantastic movie re-released on DVD and well worth adding to your collection. I find no obvious flaws with this DVD (I even appreciate the intermission and the music therein) The colors are vibrant and the sound is worthy of this great movie. Listen to the crickets during the opening credits if you want to hear what I deem to be the real worth of digital remixing. If you only buy a few DVDs make this one near the top of your list. I

You haven't seen Fiddler like this in years! - 4.75 out of 5 (9/20/1998)
Except for one minor flaw, this is an absolute first-rate DVD of "Fiddler on the Roof". The final video image shows no deterioration with age and the audio has been greatly enhanced. With the restoration of its widescreen format you will see this movie again, for the first time. It was quite honestly like viewing it for the very first time.
The only exception that I take to this movie is the Intermission slide 1/2 way in the movie. Again, we have DVD, we can stop the film at any time we c
