Go Behind The Lies
There's the right way, the wrong way, and the Army way. But there's no way military investigator Paul Brenner (John Travolta) is going to participate in a cover-up when Fort MacCallum officials try to hide the motive behind the murder of a beautiful female officer.
Travolta's magnetic performance sparks this riveting thriller from the director of Con Air and the producer of The Hunt For Red October.
Madeline Stowe plays Brenner's co-investigator and former flame. And James Cromwell, Timothy Hutton, Clarence Williams III and James Woods are among the suspects in this "steamy game of cat and mouse that will keep you guessing until the surprising, explosive ending." - Sandie Newton, CBS-TV

A rousing thriller - 4.25 out of 5 (12/26/2000)
"There are three ways to do things: The right way, they wrong way and the army way!"
Military Investigator Paul Brenner is told this early on in "The General's Daughter." It's a scene that seems to give away too much of the final outcome, but we soon learn it's another red herring. The movie is much of that same red herring throughout. You get hints of clues to be later told and you read them in the wrong context.
The movie starts out with this same idea as John Travolta in introduced as F

Too ridiculous and convoluted - 3.75 out of 5 (2/3/2000)
Looks like the comments are split regarding this film. Although i enjoyed the acting i found the plot totally ridiculous. I also didn't buy the relationship between Travolta and Stowe, i felt it dragged the film down and after watching the deleted scenes was happy to see they chose to omit the romantic relationship between the two.
All I can say is thank god that they didn't choose the cheesy ending that was left on the cutting room floor.
The video /audio transfer onto the dvd format was q

TRAVOLTA AND FREUD DO THE ARMY - 4.5 out of 5 (1/29/2000)
Psychiatry and Hollywood fell in love a long time ago. We all remember the famous dream conceived by Salvador Dali for Alfred Hitchcock in the mid-forties. Then we had to bear the Tennessee Williams saga with such movies as Joseph Mankiewicz's SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER or Richard Brooks's CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF. In the seventies came the psycho-killers with their bloody knives and their possessive mothers.
So one could qualify THE GENERAL'S DAUGHTER as a psycho-thriller. With a good plot. The best
