"An instant classic that will enchant earthingsifor decadesito come." - Wall Street Journal
Something huge is on the horizon. Hogarth Hughes just rescued an enormous robot that fell from the stars to Earth. Now young Hogarth has one very big friend and an even bigger problem: How do you keep a 50-foot-tall, steel-eating giant a scret? It's even harder when a nosey government agent arrives in town to hunt down the "alien invader" and the combined land, sea and air might of the U.S. military is sent to demolish the giant. The result: an incredible adventure that's part metal, part magic, all heart.

A giant of an animated film! - 4.75 out of 5 (7/27/2000)
"The Iron Giant" is one of those rare films that manages to educate as well as entertain. The film is set in an undisclosed time, which I assumed to be the fifties, and a good bit of the story relies on the paranoia spread throughout those times with the naiveté that we once used in relation to the atom bomb.
In that time, the entire world was looking for reds under the bed. The town of Rockville Maine is having it's own share of problems as they have just been witness to a large falling obj

Entertaining and touching - 3.5 out of 5 (6/15/2004)
My 5 year old loves this movie, and so do I and his mom. It's from the book by Ted Hughes (Sylvia Plath's ex), but the story has been substantially altered and in my opinion improved quite a bit. It has exciting parts, but it is not the ultra fast paced excitement of many kids movies. There is some violence but not much, and there is a strong non-violent theme in the movie. It has a happy, and unexpected ending.

Towers above the rest! - 4.5 out of 5 (2/26/2003)
I kick myself at least once a week for not seeing this in the theatre (shame on WB for not telling me!). The finest animation put on screen since the early disney years - honest! The beautiful images are woven together with snappy, intelligent(yes parents, you will love this one as well)dialogue and a story written from the heart of a muse, or muses I should say. I love animation, and this may very well be my favorite of all time.
The only downer is that Warner Bros. has put about as much s

a surprisingly good movie - 3.5 out of 5 (5/22/2000)
i expected this movie to be just like the majority of the pg animation genre; with an over-done love interest, too many songs and an irritatingly predictable plot, but this movie had none of these things in addition it has enough balanced humour to keep children bemused and adults interested, which is no mean feat!
my favorite movies i have seen this year are 'fight club' and 'american history x' tonight i add 'the iron giant' to that list.
