Wow and then some - 4.5 out of 5 (10/14/2002)
"Saving Private Ryan" is one of the first films that I can practically guarantee will be set amongst classics now such as "Casablanca", "Citizen Kane", "2001, A Space Odyssey"... it just has the qualities to it to ensure that legacy. The realism, carnage, brutality and just sheer magnitiude are astonishing.
The video and audio presentations are also superb, from the distinct World War II sounds, explosions, yelling and screaming and the almost haunting score, to the awesome detail in every

Most realistic war movie ever made! - 4.75 out of 5 (7/3/2002)
It is beyond me why this movie did not win best picture in 1998. Why did they give it to Shakespeare in Love. I find it almost insulting to all of the men and women who fought and died fithting the Germans in World War 2. This movie should have swept the oscars in my mind. I believe and this is the truth that the academy awards go to the highest bidder. The best war film ever made.
