Synopsis
A Story of Civilized Disobediance.

Florence, Italy on the brink of WWII - it was a time of social unrest and, of course - afternoon tea. Join Oscar winner Cher and an incredible cast of leading ladies as they host this radiant, beautiful film, that is worth savoring. Pre-war Florence is the place to be for any proper British woman who relishes culture and the arts. These ladies have everything they could ever want or need - including a promise from Dictator Mussolini himself that not even the imminent World War will impose upon their lifestyle. But when it appears that his word is not kept, and these expatriates - who chose to stay in Italy instead of seeking refuge in their own country - are in trouble, it takes a young outcast boy and a brazen American woman to keep them in the high life and out of harm's way.

Tea with Mussolini is great..... - 4.25 out of 5  (3/16/2000)
Tea With Mussolini is an excellent movie centered around the devastating tragedy of WW2. It is heartwarming, sad, funny, and an all over great movie. Cher's performance is incredible and unique. You have to love Cher, Maggie Smith, Lily Tomly and Judy Dench. Each gives a performance that charms and disarms the audience. Great sets, costumes, locations, direction and cinematography. Entertaining, interesting, and a good reflection of Europe at the time. The story follows young Luca from early   more >>

Wonderfully Rich - 3.5 out of 5  (1/22/2000)
Tea With Mussolini is a "pseudo-autobiography" of the director, Franco Zeffirelli. It is set in Italy and was also filmed on location, which gives the film a lot of visual depth. The story follows young Luca from early childhood to adolescence and adulthood, in both the physical and mental/emotional sense. Shown in what comes off as a series of vignettes, the film is a wonderful departure from the pacing and styling of most modern films. The acting is first class. Dame Judi Dench stands ou   more >>
