"Sharp, funny…and relentlesslyiin your face!"- Kevin Thomas, LA Times
It's 1985 and Stevo is that rare animal, a punk rocker in the Mormon stronghold of Salt Lake City, Utah. He just graduated from college with honors and now his life is a nutty roller coaster ride of rock shows, stealing cars, beating up rednecks and non-stop partying with his buddy, Heroin Bob, and his girlfriend. But with the scene getting lame and Stevo going nowhere fast, he has put his punk ideals to the test. With a choice between "No Future" and Harvard Law School, what's a guy with blue hair supposed to do?
Fueled by a classic punk rock soundtrack and hilarious, energetic performances form Matthew Lillard, Michael Goorjian, and Annabeth Gish, SLC Punk is one of punk's medcap search for a way to grow up without selling out.

Still a funny film - 3.75 out of 5 (7/8/2003)
Before you can truly understand the weirdness that is SLC PUNK, you have to sit back and think about the possibility of a punk rock movie being made in one of the strictest and most religious cities in the country.
The SLC in the title refers to Salt Lake City in Utah; a city where the odds are better at seeing a Wednesday afternoon bible thumping session that a punk rock show on a hot rocking Saturday night. But that's the beauty of SLC PUNK, it's a movie about people who don't fit in with

Anarchy in the UT - 3.25 out of 5 (12/29/1999)
I found this film appreciably entertaining in spite of its heavy reliance on narratives. Listening to the commentary provided by director, Merendino, and actors, Lillard(Steve-O) and Goorjian(Heroin Bob), it was explained that the narratives were used to make Steve-O sound more literate and therefore more sympathetic. I loved the commentary portion of this movie, probably moreso than the movie itself. I got the impression that Merendino knows (or knew) punk. Especially amusing were the portio

Sure to be one of the Best Youth films of the 90s......... - 5 out of 5 (12/6/1999)
The last year, or two has shown audiences that even in the midst of mainstream Hollywood "teen" fare, there are several films that try to break the form, with wonderful results. "Rushmore" and "Election" are two good examples, and "S.L.C. Punk" can be added to that group as well. It was discovered at last year's Sundance Film festival, which as a very good sign. It's a blazingly wonderful, orginal film that will take you back to the days of John Hughes.
Three words that best describe this fil

Not bad for $800K... - 4 out of 5 (11/28/1999)
There are numerous reasons and examples why independent films are better and infinitely more interesting than Hollywood's latest 100 million dollar roller-coaster thrill ride action extravaganza.
SLC Punk is just another one of those examples. The film doesn't put itself in the same category as Gummo; it's a bit too "pleasing" to the eyes and ears for that. But it was made with no studio money, and for only $800,000 is funnier and more entertaining than the latest piece of crap from Adam Sandle
