A sumptuous awe inspiring feast for the senses! - 4.25 out of 5 (5/23/2003)
It was approximately one in the morning when I made the decision to attempt to tackle a review for this movie. The City of Lost Children has been a long standing favorite of mine since my senior year of high school. It has always filled me so much awe and wonder. It is truly a delight for so many reasons; from the dark and claustrophobic ciy, to the amazing textures and richness within the cinematography, to the maniacal fun of Jean-Paul Gautier's costume designs. This film is so good it makes up for Jerry Lewis... - 4.5 out of 5 (10/23/1999)
Describing this film would take far more than 1,000 words, so I'll put it this way...I have never seen such an inventive, imaginative film in my life. Don't let the fact that it's French dissuade you...the film is very high budget and looks good, with effects that may be 5 years old, but easily trounce such recent films as Virus or Deep Blue Sea.
As for the DVD, it's mixed...the features are cool, but not spectacular...a costume design gallery, a sketch gallery, and a commentary are about it
