"Pure Argento genius…shocking horror." -Starburst Magazine
International star Asia Argento portrays Anna Manni, a beautiful police detective in pursuit of a savage serial killer-rapist that has been terrorizing central Italy. When his trail leads Anna to Florence's famed Uffizi Museum, the investigation takes a violently psychotic turn. Anna is struck by the bizarre phenomenon known as the Stendhal Syndrome, a psychological reaction to artwork that makes the viewer fall unconscious; and in Anna's case, vulnerable to the terror she is tracking. For her, the artowrk begins to come to life. It terrorizes and brutalizes her as she tries to hunt down the depraved slasher.
As she gets closer to the vicious killer, her strange affliction transports her into nightmares of carnage. Her prey has now become her predator. Anna must destroy the killer before she is destroyed by The Stendhal Syndrome.

Movie Good - Troma not. - 3 out of 5 (3/9/2002)
First I want to concentrate on the movie itself. It's a Dario Argento, and I think it should be looked at in that light. It's not bad - but it's not great either.
Having recently watched Suspiria this movie really shows up as a bit of a bad penny. Where is the technique? Where is the Argento style? The camera work and such just isn't particularly different from what you'll see in other slasher type movies. In short - the is not much style here.
Of course he's known for gore - and we

ARGENTO'S BEST RECENT WORK MAKES FOR A WORTHWHILE DVD - 4 out of 5 (3/22/2001)
People continue to perpetuate their disappointment with Argento's recent cinematic output. STENDHAL SYNDROME has been dismissed by alot of his admirers, probably those who just want Argento to come up with another OPERA or DEEP RED. But those films were masterpieces, and to expect an artist to duplicate a masterpiece as if it were a recipe out of a cookbook is absurd. True, STENDHAL SYDROME accumulates too many minor faults for it to compete with the director's best work, but I look at it in the

Troma and Argento..it should have worked - 2.25 out of 5 (11/29/2000)
I can't believe how subpar this was. Was Troma so honored to get an Argento film that they took whichever one couldn't get distribution from Anchor Bay?
