Oh how I love thee! - 4 out of 5 (8/15/2000)
Those of you who read what I write, know my quote; "It ain't Shakespeare!" Truth be told, I never really got into the bard. His plays were interesting but a little too hard to follow with all of those thee's and thou's. Truthfully and simply put, I'm just too dumb to understand what is going on.
Last week, I watched "Titus" and was amazed at what a wonderful film that was, this week to my horror, the wife presented my with this wonderful film I had to watch. I swallowed a lump and sat dow

Haven't bought yet? Buy the Region2 DVD. - 4.75 out of 5 (8/27/1999)
First. The movie is pretty okay, but not as good as Saving Private Ryan or The Truman Show.
Both should have deserved the Oscar for Best Picture. But there are some nice extras on the Region2 DVD.
A commentary by John Madden, a Behind the scenes documentary and some other extras. So, if you want to
buy the movie for the extras, get the Region2 DVD.

ASTOUNDING! A TRULY ENTERTAINING FILM! - 5 out of 5 (8/20/1999)
If you're a fan of action or blood and gore type flicks, stay away from this one! Shakespeare In Love is perhaps one of the most original and entertaining films in years. This movie is NOT only geared at the female audience, but for anyone who enjoys a funny story with many twists and fabulous acting. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences WAS justified in awarding this fine film the "Best Picture" Oscar. Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow are wonderful as the "star-crossed lovers".

What? Best Picture? Best of What! - 3.25 out of 5 (8/19/1999)
First things first, Saving Private Ryan should have won the Best Picture Oscar, and if not, than Elizabeth should have because they are both MUCH better films than Shakespeare in Love.
The interest just isn't there. Joseph Fiennes, unlike his brother, has virtually no screen presence at all.
What exactly attracted anyone to him? He doesn't seem to have a purpose except to get Gwenyth Paltrow to take her clothes off.
The screenplay was equally underwhelming. There is no spark, no life to anyo
