Synopsis
Earth's last city, Olympus, rose from the ashes of a global war on the backs of Bioroids, artificial clones who make up half the city's population. Under the strict guidance of a supercomputer, humanity's last survivors enjoy an idyllic peace, but only on the surface...Human terrorists within the military seek a return to power and clash with the government's ES.W.A.T. forces led by the legendary soldier, Deunan Knute, and her boyfriend who is 75% machine. Retrieving the Appleseed will end the conflict, and Deunan alone holds its secret.

This intense animated feature, based on the graphic novels created by Shirow Masumune ("The Ghost in the Shell"), features direction by Shinji Aramaki ("Bubble Gum Crises") and a powerful soundtrack from today's top international music artists, including the Boom Boom Satellites, Paul Okenfold, Basement Jaxx and the world-renowned Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Customer Review
An exemplory disc for a unique brand of film! - 4.5 out of 5  (5/19/2005)
If you are a regular fan of anime, you're not going to find anything out of the ordinary or groundbreaking with the story of Appleseed. It's rather formulaic to storytelling in the anime world of sci-fi - cool girl, big robots, huge cities of the future on the outskirts of a war-torn wasteland, fights with big robots, typical "we must be cautious with our *insert race, cause or creed here* for the sins of the fathers may come back to haunt our children" philosophy, you get the point.   more >>
