Bob (Damon Packard), an obese watch-seller who is dying of sucrose intolerance, is the overweight hero for this film. He survives by trampling the streets of LA, selling- eventually giving- watches to anyone who will listen to this apologetic sales pitch. His days are repeatedly punctuated by irrational rage and displays of self-loathing.
In a nod to the sweet-coated culture that is so much of the film's scorn, Bob is addicted to sugar. Unfortunately, Bob's dally diet consists of excessive consumption of cakes and candy- which, in an early moment worthy of John Waters, leads to a spectacular vomiting on the sidewalk.
His family life is no better. The 400-pound Bob is constantly berated by his month for being so weak-willed and disgusting and his sister, who died in the 1970's from a PCP overdose, is trying to contact him from beyond.
To make matters even worse, Bob is haunted by the vision of a woman wandering the streets, looking anxious in a pink negligee. The woman and Bob will finally meet in a climactic finale at Universal Studios.
