Aliens Vs Predator Review - 3 out of 5 (1/13/2005)
The idea of Alien Vs. Predator has been gestating since Dark Horse Comics released the comic in the late 80s. Interest in the idea grew after Predator 2 was released, which featured an Alien skull in the trophy case on the Predator's ship. As Dark Horse continued to release more and more AVP mini-series throughout the 90s, rumors of a movie slowly began to grow.
This made the fanboys happy.
Despite two mediocre Alien sequels since then, fanboy anticipation has been con

In Defense of AVP - 4 out of 5 (5/23/2005)
While most critics have dripped acid on Paul Anderson's "Alien vs. Predator," apparently due to prima facie objections to the very idea of a non-courtroom-drama with the word "versus" in the title, I was pleasantly surprised by AVP.
Is AVP as great as 1986's "Aliens"? Nope. But I think comparing AVP to "Aliens" is to employ the wrong standard. AVP is not competing with that film, in much the same way that "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" was not competing with the sensational "Star

It Still Stinks! - 3 out of 5 (1/28/2005)
Having seen this movie in the theaters, and not being very impressed with it then, I thought I would give it a second chance on DVD. I rented this title thinking that I might enjoy it more a second time around...wrong! If you are a fan of both series, as I am, I really think you are going to be majorly disappointed with this title.
Everything starts out OK, but then it just gets harder and harder to overlook major flaws in the barely-existent story. If you are looking for anything

Better on the small screen... - 3 out of 5 (1/28/2005)
But certainly not a good movie. Extras are spotty, commentary tracks aren't inspired, and the much-ballyhooed "new beginning not shown in theaters" is anything but exciting. This was pretty much a stinker on the big screen, but at least it's a bit more easy to take on my TV. I can skip the boring parts and get to the 20 minutes or so of the film that actually merit the "Aliens Vs. Predator" title.
The actual DVD is pretty decent. The picture is nice and sharp and the sound mix is nice.
