M. Night Shyamalan (Signs, Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense), the director who brought you the world's greatest thrillers on DVD, now creates his most thought-provoking triumph yet ... breaking international records and dazzling audiences around the globe! The Village is a smart, edge-of-your-seat chiller crawling with terrifying surprises and frightening twists and turns. An isolated, tight-knit community lives in mortal fear of an oppressive evil inhabiting the forbidden forest just beyond their tiny village. So frightening that no one ventures into the woods ... until one villager dares to face the unknown. With unforgettable performances from Joaquin Phoenix, Sigourney Weaver, William Hurt, Adrien Brody, and newcomer Bryce Dallas Howard, this powerful motion picture is one of Hollywood's best psychological thrillers and ranks with the best of Hitchcock!

A thriller that is devoid of thrills - 2.75 out of 5 (12/20/2004)
Sometimes, even the best cast and crew that can be assembled miss the mark. After all, the New York Yankees have the highest payroll in Major League Baseball and, well, they couldn't make it to the 2004 World Series. That's how I felt while watching M. Night Shyamalan's most recent film, The Village. The film had potential, but it seems that nothing could manage that last run in the bottom of the ninth to save the day.
The story opens in a secluded village where a funeral has just tak

Vista Series Reduced - 3.25 out of 5 (1/18/2007)
Like the very observant post above stated, this is hardly a DVD worth the label "Vista Series" - at least not if you take a look at Vista Series own website presentation with the pretentious slogans "Vision, Imagination, Style, Theme, Artistry. Meaning that this DVD product should be something very special next to others. Well it's anything but that. It's a single disc in a regular keep case, with the very most basic extra features that one should expect on a DVD.
Therefore, I gave this DVD

One of the Great Love Stories on Film - 5 out of 5 (2/18/2005)
One of the truly great love stories - marketed as a horrror film (it isn't). They should have said it was the single best date film ever. Just enough suspense to keep you close and a love story that will melt your heart. That Bryce Dallas Howard wasn't nominated for an Academy Award is a crime. This is a wonderful film, with an incredible cast. Although there was no Director's Commentary, the extras are nice. "Bryce's Diary" is touching. The shorts involving the cast are extremely well done. Bu

Ok, if you don't expect a horror film. - 3.75 out of 5 (1/21/2005)
All I can say is that people should not expect a true horror movie here. If you are expecting a horror film, then you will be disappointed. However, if you are expecting a decent love story with some interesting twists then you will like The Village. I'm glad I saw this movie, but was a bit upset by how it was marketed as a horror film.
