Empire Review A fantastic sequel! - 5 out of 5  (12/2/2004) Roger Ebert calls SPIDER-MAN 2 "the best superhero movie I have ever seen" That is high praise indeed and I'd have to say I agree with it. But when you look at all the facts in the puzzle, it's easy to see why. All of the pieces fit. First and foremost, Sony went with a Director familiar with the subject. Sam Raimi was a comic book fan from way back when and thus they avoided the mistake of going with a Director who knew nothing about the subject. Discounting the 'girl' comics like Archie and the like there were two major forces in comic lore then, DC and Marvel.
