Good, but not perfect - 3 out of 5 (10/26/2004)
I think Rob Lowe made an outstanding Ben Mears, however, I didn't like the inclusion of his being taken hostage by the Taliban, I don't think that was important to the story at all. I also like the idea of Barlow being more like a creature than a man, even though the re-telling is more to King's description of his character. Not to take away from Sutherland's great performance, but I also enjoyed James Mason's portrayal of Straker a little bit more. I would have also liked it more if the movie'

Faitful to the Original Book - 3.5 out of 5 (10/22/2004)
I do love the original treatment Salem's Lot received back in the 70's. Really, who can forget Barlow as played by Reggie Nalder. Utterly creepy even today!! Of course, Barlow in that series did not have anything in common with the character created by Stephen King in the original book. Finally, someone has returned to one of King's best books and decided to produce a version that remains pretty faithful to the text.
