From theidirector of Independence Day
In this pulse-pounding action-thriller, global warming triggers the onset of a new Ice Age. As tornadoes flatten Los Angeles, a tidal wave engulfs New York City and the entire Northern Hemisphere begins to freeze solid. Now, climatologist Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid), his son Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal) and a small band of survivors must ride out the growing superstorm and stay alive in the face of an enemy more powerful and relentless than any they've ever encountered: Mother Nature!

Decent enough for a disater flick - 3.75 out of 5 (10/13/2004)
Critics were unusually hard on THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. While the movie was praised for its special effects, most of them were not so entranced by the human angle in the story.

Stunning - 4.75 out of 5 (11/15/2004)
Best disaster movie that I've seen. Thank God it's not cheesy and full of stupid humor like Independance Day. Here thankfully, everyone is serious when faced by the dangerous events. I really loved this movie, and I recommended to anyone who enjoys big adventures and big special effects.

Wait for the special edition - 3 out of 5 (10/21/2004)
Independence Day this is not. That film had great special effects, an amusing story line and didn't take itself too seriously. The special effects here are mostly good but not great (the LA tornado scene and, for the most part, the NYC wall of water the only exceptions). The wolves, however, are hilarious. By the way, can just give NYC a break? Next time, destroy Cleveland or Detroit. Oh wait, would would care. The story is so somber and humorless it's enough to make you wish for a funnel
