"Four Stars! No-Holds-Barred Action!" - Matt Lehky, Cleveland Sun
The Punisher walks through the world we all know, a world darkened by war, crime, cruelty and injustice. He has no superpowers to battle the evil he sees - only his fierce intelligence, his years of combat experience and, above all, his iron determination to avenge those wronged by society's villains.

Better than I expected, but worse than I wanted! - 3.75 out of 5 (9/15/2004)
Critics took THE PUNISHER to task for being "too dark and grimly violent."
I wonder if any of them have ever read any of the comic books?
THE PUNISHER works as a film because it's about a man who isn't really a hero. And that's just the way Frank Castle would have it. Since his first appearance back in the AMAZING SPIDER MAN comic book, Frank Castle has been nothing but a hard case. The terms "grim and gritty" describe the man to a T.
Today the character has undergone a rebirth of so

The Punisher: Best Comic Book Movie in Years (Take that, Spidey!) - 5 out of 5 (10/22/2004)
Of all the comic book characters to come around in the last thirty years, the one that has always stood out is the character of Frank Castle, aka The Punisher. In 1974, Marvel first introduced the character as a possible nemesis to Spider-Man. Pretty soon afterwards, the character was headlining his very own comic book adventures. In my younger years, I instantly became a fan, and to this day, it is my all time favorite comic book creation.
Only one thing differed from his adventures than th

Punishing to watch. - 3.25 out of 5 (9/28/2004)
What are these people watching?
After seeing Man On Fire I have to say that this felt like a watered down poorly acted drama with 10 minutes of fun at the end. The name is PUNISHER but there is little punishing except 5 to 10 minutes at the end. Even after the family is murdered (no spoiler.. it says it on the box) he isn't exactly taking the bad guys down like you would think. This movie takes entirely too long to develop a character considering it doesn't do a very good job of accomplishi

Thomas Jane kicks it up a knotch BAM!!!!! - 4.75 out of 5 (9/17/2004)
This movie is one of the best comic book adaptations I've ever seen. Tom Jane nails the role of Frank Castle both the loving father husband character, and the gloomy, dark, bad ass revenge character known only as The Punisher! He just got it all down from the look to the unique ways that he wasted the bad guys. He's a talented actor. John Travolta once more, playing a villain did alright. He at times tried to be too cold and over-the-top but still good. The rest of the cast was pretty average and b
