This film almost doesn't fly! - 3.5 out of 5 (9/20/2000)
"The Rocketeer" has been compared to "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Top Gun" in press quotes. It's a fair comparison perhaps but still a both off the mark. The film does copy "Raiders" as a model sketch taken from the Saturday morning serials, but while "Raiders" had the good sense to laugh at itself occasionally, this film takes it self way too serious and that takes some of the fun out of it. As far as "Top Gun, well, let's just say the only thing in common is they both involve air travel!

Great Movie, below-average disk - 2.5 out of 5 (10/16/1999)
I love the Rocketeer. It's a good, old-fashioned clean cut adventure, with typical Disney type good guys and bad guys. As a film I really enjoyed watching it on DVD, but the disk itself is a pretty pathetic affair.
VIDEO : Overall pretty good, but this can't have been the cleanest print they had to work with, was it? During chapter 1 and the final chapter there are a couple of moments when you can just see a thin noise bar along the bottom of the screen - kinda like they had a damaged VCR

Disney screws up an excellent film - 3.5 out of 5 (8/24/1999)
This film can be summed up in one word: Adventure. This is a wonderfully made hero drama with a traditional classic story that will bring you back. A great movie with a GREAT soundtrack.
Disney messes up. No features, and pixelated video. How many more films will they mess up.
Worth a buy, but don't expect a high quality DVD, just a great movie.
