Civil Action, A (1998) - 3.75 out of 5  (4/10/2002)
A tangled case involving industrial pollution by two highly esteemed conglomerates. They are accused of contaminating drinking water and causing the deaths of innocent children in the New England vicinity in the early 1980's. Screen writer of Hannibal, Schindler's List Steve Zaillian screen wrote A Civil Action about a courtroom fabrication based upon a true story and Jonathan Harr's non-fiction novel. The case encompasses an unpleasant incident in the year 1979 about a high rate of leuke   more >>

A Second Look at "A Civil Action" - 4.25 out of 5  (2/9/2000)
This a re-review of "A Civil Action", which was one of last years best films. I loved this movie alot when I first saw it, yet I don't think I put much into my original review. The purpose of this review is to be more in depth in my appreciation for this film. "A Civil Action" is one of the best, if not THE best, legal dramas of all time. One of the main reasons for its greatness is how real it is, though it does help it to be based on a true story. Another suprising element is the fact that   more >>

The Lawyer's Dilemma......... - 4.5 out of 5  (8/11/1999)

It is a drama where for once, we get a look at how the lawyer suffers during a court case, just as a client. John Travolta, masterful as always, portrays Jan Schlichtman, a personal injury attourney   more >>

A different kind of legal drama... - 4 out of 5  (7/25/1999)
A Civil Action might be one of the best courtroom dramas ever made for two reasons. One, it's based on a true story, and as such, comes across as an non-idealistic and decidedly unglamorized look at the legal system. Two, it's unique in the fact that for a legal drama, very little of the film actually takes place in the courtroom. John Grisham's sentiments notwithstanding, the lead character Jan Schlichtmann (Travolta) is a personal injury lawyer and head of a small but successful firm, and   more >>
