He Didn't Find His Dreams. . .His Dreams Found Him.
Millions of light-years ago, a great frontier was constructed in the universe to protect the star League of Planets from its enemy, the evil KO-DAN. But now a defector has given the key to the frontier to the KO-DAN, and Starfighters from throughout the galaxy are needed to defend the peace. One recruiter, the alien scalawag Centauri, visits Earth to fill his quota of recruits and finds Alex, an 18-year-old Earthling with an extraordinary talent for video game wizardry. The last film? - 4.25 out of 5 (6/11/2001)
THE LAST STARFIGHTER is one of those guilty pleasures that we take in life.
The movie as a whole is kind of lame, but it has enough good bits and pieces
to make it qualify as one of those films you watch over and over again.
So why the special edition? Well, believe it or not, this film was pretty
special and ahead of its time when it originally came out on 1984. The film
was one of the first to use the state of the art computer animation that we
see practically in every film nowadays.

Ho-hum - 2.75 out of 5 (1/9/2004)
There isn't much to this movie. It doesn't really get interesting until the young hero heads into space and that doesn't amount to much.

a film with genuine heart - 4 out of 5 (5/12/2003)
Paul Kael never reviewed this film, which is a shame, because it would have been better appreciated if she had. It is one of the few SF films with actual characters. Yes, it's sentimental, but like 'It's a Wonderful Life,' it builds on fundamental values and relationships. The special effects are not out of date, really; more like antiques. The film is touching, and charming. Highly recommended!

Last Starfighter - Charming. - 4 out of 5 (4/10/2002)
Very charming 80's SF picture - tame by anything being released today, and now considered children's fare, but nonetheless more ambitious than 90% of what I've seen lately.
