"Getting Lost Never Felt So Good!" - Thelma Adams, US Weekly
Bob Harris (Bill Murray) and Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) are two Americans in Tokyo. Bob is a movie star in town to shoot a whiskey commercial, while Charlotte is a young woman tagging along with her workaholic photographer husband (Giovanni Ribisi). Unable to sleep, Bob and Charlotte cross paths one night in the luxury hotel bar. This chance meeting soon becomes a surprising friendship. Charlotte and Bob venture through Tokyo, having often hilarious encounters with its citizens, and ultimately discover a new belief in life's possibilities.
Shot entirely on location in Japan, Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation is a valentine to the nature of close friendships and to the city of Tokyo. Ms. Coppola's film, from her original screenplay, contemplates the unexpected connections we make that might not last - yet stay with us forever.

Two people adrift in life find each other in Tokyo - 5 out of 5 (2/3/2004)
One of the best things about independent films is they can go contrary to what Hollywood considers the established formula. According to the infinite wisdom of the major Hollywood studios a film concerning an older man and a beautiful young woman, isolated far from home, the emphasis should run to the more carnal aspects of human relationships. Instead, this film offers a look into the psychological composit

Good luck trying to stay awake! - 2.5 out of 5 (2/23/2004)
First of all I really like a lot of the movies Bill Murray has made. I watched this hoping it would be an interesting and thought-provoking picture. I waited for something to happen and nothing ever did. I found out afterwards that it was supposed to be a comedy. Do not fooled. There is absolutely no reason you should waste an hour and 40 minutes of your life on this picture. The only reason I give it 1 star is the acting is fine.

The Best Film Of 2003... Sophia Coppola has arrived. - 5 out of 5 (2/9/2004)
Lost In Translation is not only the best film of the year, it just might be the best film narrative of this young decade and perhaps the last. Big epics about Hobbits are fine, but Sophia Coppola has delivered something with far more poignancy, humor and heartbreak. Lost In Translation is a masterpiece by any definition of that word. Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson may never do better work. I hope they will, but this act is going to be tough to follow. Nothing since Nicholas Cage in Leav
