Good John Grissiam novel turned into a film. - 4 out of 5 (6/3/1999)
This is a pretty good legal drama with a very good plot. Intelligently written. The reason I gave the film a 4 is because some may not like its seriousness, but I do.
The audio is surround and the video is superbly crisp, with a choice between full and wide. There is an apparent lack of features, though.
Good film, despite the lack of features.

A Good Legal Drama... - 3.25 out of 5 (3/18/1999)
This is a good movie that has had a lackluster DVD boost.
Any avid DVD collector should aim to start a John Grisham
collection such as I have.
The plot is excellent; Tommy Lee Jones really plays his character
to perfection. Although the sound is not considered to be a plus
for this type of movie, the video transfer is very good.
Every DVD doesn't have to work your speakers out, but this is a good
movie that should sit on the shelf to come back to from time to time.

Good yarn (if little action) - great picture quality - 4.25 out of 5 (6/27/1998)
Slightly flawed story (the last half hour gets very silly) but one of those movies that has you on the edge of your seat for most of its duration. Extras are a bit damp (a theatrical trailer, written notes on the cast and production) but the picture quality (anamorphic widescreen) is superb. The sound is matrixed Pro Logic rather than AC-3 (Dolby 5:1) but does its job more than adequately.
