Academy Award winner Hilary Swank (Boys Don't Cry) leads an all-star cast in this electrifying journey that puts you in the middle of the most spectacular film adventure.
Geophysicist, Dr. Josh Keyes (Aaron Eckhart, Erin Brockovich) has made a terrifying discovery: the Earth's inner core has stopped rotating. Now the planet's electromagnetic field is deteriorating and within months, Earth will be destroyed.
One hop exists: to send Keyes and an elite team of scientists in a subterranean vessel to the center of the Earth. As mankind's fate hangs in the balance, the scientists and the ship's crew must do the unthinkable-detonate a nuclear device to reactivate the Earth's core.
co-starring Delroy Lindo (Ransom), Emmy Award winner Stanley Tucci and Academy Award nominee Alfre Woodard.

Leave the encyclopedia at home and enjoy - 4 out of 5 (8/25/2003)
THE CORE is one of those movies where you want to pick your audience carefully.
For instance, I saw it first with a group of film critics and they didn't respond well. Afterward the film went on to gross a paltry 31 million, which is less than half what the film cost to make and market. That made it a flop and most pundits blamed it on poor word of mouth. But the critics weren't too hard on the film.
For the most part, they called it what it was. It was a roller coaster ride kind of movi

Almost entertaining.... - 2.5 out of 5 (9/23/2003)
The initial 'Core' to the movie is intriguing, and plausible. Even some of the unrealistic 'science' to the film could be shaken off for entertainment value. What can not be shaken off is a poor storyline and character development. The characters are cut and paste, and have some poor scripting, and the storyline trips on itself from the moment the ship begins its descent into the earth. Also, I found the ending to be way too idealistic, and unrealistic to the point that I found the move almo

Better Than Expected - 4.5 out of 5 (9/19/2003)
Thoroughly enjoyable sci-fi fare. Not to be scrutinized too closely, but to have a hell of a good time! Grab some popcorn and hang on!

Disappointing - 2.75 out of 5 (9/15/2003)
The movie itself started out very good, and for a while I thought it would be a pretty good film. But, after certain scenes (specifically toward the middle and end), the movie turned out to be very cheesy. Not exactly the kind of movie you would put on again and again (unless you want to pick out more problems with the science and logic in the film's plot).
