Synopsis
One Of The Most Controversial Films Of The Year!

Alex (Monica Bellucci) and Marcus (Vincent Cassel) are a couple whose story is told over the course of a fateful day. The odyssey begins with a brutal killing then unspools in reverse to reveal the horrifying events that lead to the gut-wrenching, violent climax of the opening scene. Irreversible's disturbing look at fate and destiny pushes the envelope of human emotions and takes filmmaking to another level.

Empire Review
Not for the faint of heart! - 3.5 out of 5  (8/5/2003)
Most critics start their review of IRREVERSIBLE by saying that it's a film that most people won't want to watch. In fact some go so far as to say that it's a film that most people cannot stand to see because of the extremely graphic violence. I on the other hand, think it's very important to see the film as it was intended. I might be missing the boat here, but I think the point is style and not substance. The film is shown from ending to start just like MEMENTO but that is where the similar   more >>

Excellent Piece of Cinema - 5 out of 5  (3/15/2004)
'Irreversible' is the most graphic, disturbing movie with some of the most disgusting scenes in all of cinema, at very least out of all the movies I've seen so far. If you think Donnie Darko or Passion of the Christ is disturbing then do not see this film. I'd also advise that no one under 18 years of age watch it, as I just think that it requires a lot of tolerance and comprehension, that of which a minor would not be able to understand. The rape scene is so disturbing that I cannot watch   more >>

Another work of art from Gaspar Noe. - 3.75 out of 5  (12/19/2003)
(Please note that the following review contains major spoliers) Argentinian filmmaker Gaspar Noe has never been known for subtlety. Ever since he broke on to the art-house scene in 1991 with his short Carne, his films have sparked just as many supporters as detractors, with massive walkouts at Cannes for his two feature films Seul Contre Tous (I Stand Alone) and Irreversible. But while Seul Contre Tous was about a loner whose ultimate goal for redemption led to self-destruction, Irreversible'   more >>

Easy to like, hard to watch - 4.5 out of 5  (11/17/2003)
Disturbing images and some fast camera movement can make it difficult to watch. However, the story and acting is gripping and provocative.   more >>
