High Noon in outer space! - 3.5 out of 5 (8/18/2002)
It is a very rare thing indeed when a writer and director can take a well loved genre like the western, take the essence that makes it popular and apply it to a completely different genre. This is what makes the film 'Outland' so special. It is basically the same story as the well beloved western classic 'High Noon' only it is set in a mining colony orbiting a moon of Jupiter. Although superficially this is a Sci-Fi flick at its heart is a good old fashion western. The mining colony is a typical

Picture...YIKES! - 2.25 out of 5 (2/3/2003)
I have always enjoyed this movie. I didn't expect a great DVD when I bought it, however, this transfer disappoints even low expectations. This DVD has the honor of having the worst picture quality I have ever seen. Makes one wonder if it was dubbed from VHS!!!

Horrible video transfer!!! - 2 out of 5 (10/17/2002)
One of my favorite Sci-Fi movies, but unwatchable on big screen TVs because of poor quality video tranfer.
Anyone who buys this DVD and does not return as "defective" for a full refund (as I did) is letting Warner Brothers get away with murder. I tried in vain to dicuss the problems with someone at WB but, their attitude is "we are not interested in consumer opinions, if your not happy just return it from where you got it.". There is no excuse for such a poor quality DVD release at any price

Outland - B+ - 3.5 out of 5 (5/14/2002)
Okay, I got a confession. I really, really love this movie. Regardless of Harlan Ellison's rightfully scathing review, in spite of it's obvious flaws, I dig it. The disc ... well, I don't really love the disc. However, for now, it'll due. The transfer isn't the best it could be, the sound isn't as astonishing it could be, and there are practically no extras, save for text production info, and yet another trailer narrated by Orson Welles. You can get it here for $12; you can get it at WalMa
