Writer/Director Oliver Stone has created a personal & searing testament to the men who fought the war in Vietnam. Drawn from Stone's own experience in combat, PLATOON relives the fear, the heat, the jungle, the hatreds & the horrors that were daily life for young "grunts" in Southeast Asia.
Seen through the eyes of a college drop-out, Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen), The war is a real nightmare - a private hell of fears from outside & in - with enemies on both sides of the line.

Excellent DVD of seminal Vietnam war movie - 4.5 out of 5 (8/30/1998)
Top notch DCD transfer of a great movie. The added documentary is fascinating, as is the commentary by technical advisor Dale Dye (I was less impressed with Oliver Stone's rather leaden commentary which had too many gaps). Picture quality is fine and I liked the Dolby 5.1 sound - I felt I was right there in the jungle with them at times. Excellent stuff.

One of the best DVD's in my collection. It includes behind the scenes footage and commentary on how the nobody turned somebody actors trained with Capt. Dale Dye.

Might be the most realistic Vietnam movie. - 5 out of 5 (7/18/1998)
Platoon is about as good as they come on DVD. You want features? A trailer (not listed on the package, but it is there), a GREAT documentary, and audio commentaries by Oliver Stone and Capt. Dale Dye, the technical advisor.
That's not even mentioning the super THX audio and video, making this movie look and sound better than ever.
This film is powerful, gut wrenching, and filled with moments and images that will stay with you long past the closing credits. It's definitely worth owning, as yo
