Sometimes when you finally let go, you find something worth holding onto.
Big Eden is a tiny town tucked away in the timberland of northwestern Montana, where cowboys lounge on the porch of the general store to pass the time away. It's also the childhood home of Henry Hart (Arye Gross, Minority Report), a successful but lonely New York artist, who returns after years away to care for his ailing grandfather.
Back home, Henry confronts his unrequited passion for his high school best friend and his feelings about being gay in a small town. Warmed by the openness and affection of old friends, in time Henry finds new possibilities for friendship and romance.
Big Eden is a uniquely American fable about home and family. It hits upon the universal longing and hope we each have for finding a place where we are loved, and the unconditional desire to see those that we love find happiness.
Award-winning ensemble cast including Eric Schweig (Last Of The Mohicans, Skins) and Louise Fletcher (Academy Award® winner for One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest).

Northern Exposure with a gay twist! ! ! - 4.75 out of 5 (2/13/2003)
Fans of the old TV series Northern Exposure will rejoice to see this feature film. I couldn't help but compare the offbeat dromedy with Big Eden the entire time I was watching it. It is the tale of a city guy going to a little podunk town in Montana to be with his dying grandfather. The twist in this tale is that the Joel-like character is gay. So basically picture Joel as a gay man and Marilyn and Maggie as men and you'll kind of get a feel for this off beat award winning movie.

Small picture....big storyline - 4 out of 5 (10/28/2002)
This is what filmmaking should be!
The story line was the best. The production team behind this picture spent their money wisely...on story, on talent and on the scenery! The fall leaves, snow-covered mountains and blueish green lakes/streams are as much a charachter in this movie as those with speaking parts.
I just wish there were more features on this DVD. Maybe more about the area, the story, etc. There were also some lines that I didn't hear to clearly..it would have helped to have

Refreshing mature look at gay life over 30. - 3.5 out of 5 (6/10/2002)
This movie is not a typical hollywood cookie-cutter movie. It's hard to tell where it's going next, but I enjoyed the ride. Even though the town is unrealisticly gay friendly, it makes you feel good to think we might one day all get along like this. It shows that there are homosexuals out there who aren't in their 20's and don't live at bars.
