David Morrell originally wrote the novel FIRST BLOOD in 1972 during the turbulent aftermath of the Vietnam War. He was a high school teacher and his views on the war often differed from those of his students. The result was a book that told a harrowing story of a man obsessed not only by the war, but the humiliation he endured once returning back to his homeland.
