Empire Review Running on Empty - 2.75 out of 5  (10/26/2001) Blowing up a research lab probably wasn't the best idea by Arthur and Annie Pope (Judd Hirsh and Christine Lahti), especially since they have children. RUNNING ON EMPTY is the story of two fugitive parents (Hirsh and Lahti) raising their two boys (River Phoenix and Jonas Abry). While running from the law, the poor boys have to change identities so often that it's hard for them to remember their own names. It touched issues as family bonds, making hard decisions and morality without getting too mushy and politically correct (which you americans have a bad habbit of doing when making such movies :) ). A great story, acted out by a great cast, makes this a gem in my DVD collection. The only negative thing I have to say about this disc is that they have chopped it down to 4:3.
