The Chaplin Collection
The Gold Rush, Charles Chaplin famously said, is "the picture I want to be remembered by." In 1998, leading movie critics and experts voted and remembered, choosing this 24-karat comedy as one of the American Film Institute's Top 100 American Films.
Chaplin's irrepressible Little Tramp seeks riches in the Yukon in this all-time classic here in Chaplin's later sound-era re-released version (Disc 1) and a restored original silent version (Disc 2). Leave it to the Tramp to turn hard times into hilarity as he savors a Thanksgiving feast of boiled shoe, slip-sides inside a house teetering on a cliff, choreographs a whimsical dance of dinner rolls and faces all manner of perils with pluck and fortitude. The Gold Rush is a cinematic wonder. Remember, and enjoy.

Best Version Yet of 1925 Original Silent Version - 3.5 out of 5 (7/21/2003)
Chaplin re-edited and cut scenes from this, his finest film for a 1942 re-issue. All intertitles were replaced with a narration supplied by Chaplin which killed the comedy. He also made some unfortunate cuts, mainly near the end. This new Warner's release includes the dreadful 1942 version with the narration, but also the 1925 silent original with a piano score. The piano score includes many nice themes, and is recorded with presence. Also, thi picture is framed a bit better than the "talki
