The first family fantasy for the 21 century - 4.75 out of 5 (6/13/2002)
It seems that just about once a generation Hollywood comes out with a film that captures the imagination of both adults and children. These films are usually destined to become classics, not so much for the merit of the film but because they offer escape from trying times. As World War II was gearing up there was 'The Wizard of Oz'. The financially upsetting times of the eighties brought 'ET' and now during this time when terrorists are on everyone's mind there is the first 'Harry Potter' film.

At the risk of offending thousands of Lord of the Rings fans out there, I have to admit that Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was my favorite film from 2001. Based on J.K. Rowling's first novel in the popular Harry Potter series and directed by Chris Columbus, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is quite possibly the best film adaptation of a book ever to hit the silver screen. And, oh yeah...it's a whole lot of fun, too.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movies for taking me back to my facinating imagination as a child. The cenematography was supperbly executed to bring a delightfull believability and excitement to the tale.
